The Connecticut Senate has set a date for a special session on September 28, according to the Connecticut legislative website.
Although there has been no formal announcement as to what the General Assembly will be considering during the special session, one issue is certain — the extension of Gov. Ned Lamont’s emergency powers.
Lamont’s emergency powers are set to expire at the end of September after the governor requested a two-month extension in July. The last extension vote garnered a protest and the Capitol and opposition by Republican lawmakers and some Democrats.
Lamont has indicated that he is requesting a sixth extension of his COVID emergency powers in order to continue enforcing mask mandates, COVID testing and vaccination efforts, as well as other pandemic-related issues.
Senate President Pro-Tem Martin Looney, D-New Haven, said they may extend the governor’s powers into February, which would mark the start of the 2022 legislative session.
The House of Representatives is reportedly going to meet for special session on Monday, September 27, but there is nothing scheduled on the calendar at this point.
