Connecticut Voices for Children and Yankee Institute want to express their united opposition to HB 6929: An Act Concerning the Film and Digital Media Production Tax Credits.

The Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development reports that $1.5 billion has been issued to the film and movie industry through these tax credits since 2007. This is equivalent to spending tens of millions of taxpayer dollars every year. Our organizations agree this is a misallocation of precious resources and support the repeal of this tax credit in its entirety.

We respectfully urge the legislature to vote down any proposal that would expand these tax credits at the expense of other priorities here in Connecticut, and call on the General Assembly to eliminate these credits altogether.
