Yankee Institute statement on Senate passing anti-Janus bill

Tonight the state Senate approved a raw political power-grab designed to fill the coffers of Connecticut’s public employee unions.

This bill, SB 908, will harm local taxpayers by giving enormous and inappropriate benefits to public employee unions. It will harm state workers who don’t want to join government unions by allowing union representatives to pressure them – at their homes —  to join the union. And it forces our mayors, first selectmen, and other local officials to engage in unconstitutional behavior guaranteed to land them in legal hot water. Meanwhile, it compels every school district, city, and town to act as a collection agency for union political action committees, so they can work against taxpayer interests at election time.

Governor Lamont should make it clear he will stand with local officials and taxpayers if this bill reaches his desk.
