Tax Freedom Celebration

Tax Freedom Celebration

Unfortunately, Connecticut taxpayers have to work until May 21 to pay all of their taxes, longer than residents of any other state. That’s right, taxes consume more than one-third of our income, according to the Tax Foundation. We work a week longer than our neighbors in New York and New Jersey who can celebrate on May 11 and May 12, respectively.

Last year, Yankee Institute traveled the state on the Shirt Off My Back Tour, providing free t-shirts to replace the one the state taxed away. And you deserved it. In the past five years, Connecticut taxpayers have been worked through the two largest tax increases in state history.

Fairness for taxpayers is sorely missing in Hartford and we fight every day to restore it. We are last in the country, yet lawmakers have still managed to spend every penny – and then some. That we pay so much and our state is broke is enough to make anyone want to cry.

But you’ve worked hard to pay all those taxes. You deserve a party. We hope you will join us for our Tax Freedom Celebration on Friday, May 20, from 4 to 6 p.m.

Celebrate with us at the Saltwater Grille in Litchfield on the eve of Connecticut’s last in the nation Tax Freedom Day.

The fare is hors d’oeuvres and non-alcoholic drinks, with a cash bar available. Advance registration is required, and there is a suggested $10 donation.

We can’t wait to see you May 20. Space is limited, so register as soon as you can.
