Don’t ban teacher accountability

Don’t ban teacher accountability

Senate Bill 380

This bill would ban holding teachers accountable for student learning. Right now the state has a plan to evaluate teachers based on a number of factors. One of them is how much students learn, as measured by tests taken in the classroom. Teachers’ unions have made it their top priority to ban this form of accountability. The current version of the bill would have a number of negative effects. It would:

  1. Take decision-making away from towns.
  2. Increase the number of tests students have to take.
  3. Add another burden on local school districts, potentially increasing property taxes.
  4. Interfere with charter schools.
